History of this tea:
White willow bark has been used for centuries due to its natural pain-relieving properties. Its medicinal use dates back to ancient times, with the earliest recorded use being by the Egyptians around 400 BCE. The bark contains salicin, a compound that the body converts into salicylic acid, which is the active ingredient in aspirin.
The ancient Greeks, including Hippocrates, also recognized the bark’s healing properties, using it for pain and fever reduction. By the 18th century, the bark gained popularity in Europe, where it was commonly used to treat various ailments like headaches, back pain, and inflammation.
In the 19th century, scientists isolated salicin from the willow bark and later synthesized it, leading to the creation of modern aspirin. The German pharmaceutical company Bayer made this breakthrough in the late 1800s, refining the compound into a more effective and widely used form. This transformation marked the beginning of aspirin’s widespread use as a pain reliever.
But why pay more and put Acetylsalicylic Acid in your body when you can choose a natural and more affordable option?
Today, while aspirin is a synthetic version of the naturally occurring salicin found in white willow bark, many still turn to willow bark itself for natural relief from pain and inflammation.
