February 2025 - Homestead Herald

Writer: Ronald KernRonald Kern

From wild Idaho weather to new greenhouse plantings and a little love from our community—this month’s newsletter is full of fresh updates, farm fun, a promo code to save and a tiny favor that helps us grow. Come see what’s sprouting!

FAMILY:

It's official! Our granddaughter will have a little brother in August! We mentioned this in the January of edition of our Homestead Herald, but we didn't know the sex, but now we do! We are super excited, as is Heather, Skyler and of course Kennedy.

EGGS-ELLENT NEWS:

We have really been steadfast on doing all we can to keep our products in stock for you. Some items are weather and season dependent, but with the sun shining longer and longer, our hens are giving us more eggs, which is great! This means we have a good supply of our Organic Freeze-dried Chicken Eggs in stock consistently, which hasn't happened for some time. Right now is the time to stock up while inventory is high.

We are pretty proud of our eggs (non-GMO, actually free-range, no vaccines, etc.) but don't just take it from us:

  • The best eggs I've ever had, freeze-dried or not! - Marcia (Connecticut)

  • In one small storage bin, I have hundreds of eggs at my disposal! - Liza (Texas)

  • We bought a few small and an XL and took them with us while traveling.  The XL fed my entire family and was really delicious, tasted like we just cracked fresh farm eggs!" - Jeff (Utah)

PLANTING BEGINS:

We've definitely had some interesting Idaho weather lately! One day it snowed, the next it rained, and then the day after that it was sunny and nearly 60º. With such unpredictable swings, it’s no wonder seeds and planting schedules can get a bit confused. That’s one reason we start everything in the greenhouse—though even then, it still keeps us on our toes.

So far, we’ve planted bell peppers, tomatoes, onions, celery, leeks, hot peppers, broccoli, and a few beautiful flowers. Below are some pictures.

Lisa is in charge of the planting schedule and as he has done for 33.5 years, Ron does what he's told. :-)

NEW PRODUCTS:

We now offer over 30+ products, with herbal blend teas being our newest additions. These have become very popular and hope you give them a shot. They taste delicious, but the health benefits are quite numerous.

NEW BOOK SERIES:

Ron is a published author, but he just launched a kids book series about the founding fathers, and mothers, and is super excited about it. It's called The Young Patriots Series, which coincides with his Patriot Power Podcast.

Hmmm, yes, there "may" be in the works another book series, all about the farm! Stay tuned for more on that.

His first book is about George Washington, and the second book, coming out in the next few days is about John Adams. Watch the short videos explaining what he has in store.
